Newborn Photography Session Information
No Stress
I’m so honored to have the opportunity to document these early moments with your new family. Bringing a newborn home can be awe-inspiring, exhausting and, at times, stressful. I don’t want this upcoming photo session to be a source of anxiety. This brief document is meant to give you an idea of what to expect so that you can stress less.
Time and Location
While I plan for an hour, the session can take up to two hours. When accounting for breaks for feeding and diaper changes.
I’m coming to you! Your home is where you are most comfortable, and that will show in your images. I’ll usually begin in the room with the best light. I may also bring a photography light.
Dress
Wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable. Consider how the colors you and your partner are wearing complement each other. Neutral colors are great. Try and stay away from excessive patterns or stripes (they can give the camera a run for its money). For baby, simple is better. Often, a plain white or neutral-colored onesie, without any logos or bold graphics, works best. Feel free to pull any items of sentimental value that you’d like included in the session.
Posing
I prefer to capture natural, less posed images. You will naturally be snuggling your baby throughout the session, and I will capture some candids, and we will also capture images of baby alone.
Day Of
Since newborns have difficulty regulating their body temperature, and baby may have less clothing on for the photo session, the house, or room we will be in, should be warm. Like, the rest of us should be sweating. Making baby warm and comfortable will help him or her sleep more readily. (Keep this in mind when choosing your outfits as well!)
You’ve had a lot of visitors since baby’s arrival. For your photo session, it’s nice to focus on your immediate family. (If siblings will be involved in the session, we will discuss ahead of time when these will happen.) This will also help keep noise and drafts from doors opening and closing to a minimum.
It will take me a little time to load in and set up. This will be a great time for you to feed baby again, or take care of other things. So, even though we’ve set a start time, you have a little time once I arrive.
Gallery Delivery
I'll deliver your online gallery of 40 edited images in three weeks. You will have the opportunity to purchase prints directly through your gallery, or I will recommend one or two printers.
